Can markets continue to ignore politics?

A little over 2 years ago I wrote a post entitled Markets and Politics. In that post I mentioned that had done a study for a client a number of years ago about the impact presidential elections had on markets. I found that in the 3 months leading up to the election the market went up if the "pro-business" candidate was leading the polls, and down if the other candidate was ahead. But after the election if the pro-business candidate won, the market went down. If the anti-business candidate won the market went up. On average three months after the election the market was in the same place no matter who won.
