Blog: The Government Shutdown and Market Models

For FMCR there isn't a problem. But that may not be true for everybody.

The US government shutdown affects many services. Those considered essential continue, though they are not funded (no one gets paid). Non-essential services are suspended for the duration of the shut-down. Unfortunately the collection and publication of economic data is considered non-essential. So statistics like employment, inflation and economic growth will not be collected let alone published.

The FMCR Market Climatology model doesn't use much government data. I generally find what I need in the private sector. Private sector data is preferable because it is generally more timely and not subject to political issues. For example, I use Markit PMI data for macro growth rather than government GDP numbers.
